We love inspiring people to take small steps out of their comfort zone when it comes to the design of their homes. In our last blog we talked through how to use colour in your home and in this edition of Maché Musings, we wanted to point you in the direction of two colour trends that are set to be big in 2024 – nostalgic peach fuzz and earthy luxurious rust.
First up, the world of design is once again graced by the unveiling of Pantone's Colour of the Year, and in 2024 the chosen hue is ‘Peach Fuzz’. This is a colour that exudes warmth and a touch of nostalgic charm.
We know this is not going to be for everyone and the peachy colour is quite a departure from Pantone’s usual hues. This latest instalment marks the brands 25th anniversary of their “colour of the year” and I must admit it does remind me of the birthday parties of my youth (cough, cough 80s child). With this polarising colour causing quite the stir, we set ourselves the challenge of taking peach from the 80s archives, to a great accent colour to add warmth and a subtle femininity to a scheme. Initially we weren’t convinced, but some of these fruity additions have got us thinking.
Peach

Ok, Factor Fifty by Coat is slightly more muted than Peach fuzz, but this shade has a wonderful bare plaster aesthetic. We think this could be a brilliant addition to any room that needs warming.
Bringing in a gorgeous caramel colour to balance out the peach, makes this vase from our faves at Nordic Nest feel fresh and punchy. Great for styling plain shelving.
We love Cire Trudon and rate the brand as one of the best candle makers on the market. If you are looking for a historic brand and a subtle and irresistible smelling way to adopt this trend, this is the way to go.
This gorgeous throw contrasts peach with a bold black tufted pattern. Drape over your bed or on your sofa to add a soft burst of colour to your room.
Another great way to add a pop of peach is this gorgeous pillowcase by Bed Threads. The lux velvet material really adds depth and sophistication to the peach hue.
Rust

Next up is the colour that team Maché can’t stop thinking about – rich and earthy rust. This sumptuous colour injects so much warmth into a space and is made to make a statement.
It is not a great surprise this trend would hit big in 2024, with it being featured increasingly at interiors institution Salone del Mobile in Milan over the last few years. This coupled with nostalgic reds popping up all over the fashion runways last year, rust was bound to make it big in the world of interiors.
This warm and earthy shade is perfect as an accent colour to a more neutral scheme (as seen in one of our recent projects). Because rust works well with other shades of the same depth, it can easily be introduced as an accent colour or if you are as crazy about this hue as we are, go bold and get out that paint brush.
Bold or tentative, here are some of our top picks to bring this shade home.
The Maché team are desperate to incorporate this gorgeous rust hued paint by Lick into a project in 2024. Deliciously cosy and inviting.
This sumptuous rust bench from Soho Home is crying out to be placed in a cosy lux bedroom.
Another entry from our friends at Nordic Nest, this wool throw will see you through winter and beyond in comfort and style.
This velvet lamp from Anthropologie is earthy and luxurious and will look great on your bedside table. We love that the lamp and shade are both covered in a luxe velvet to add texture and dimension to this gorgeous hue.
This small but perfectly formed vase from Muubs will add texture and a subtle accent colour to even the most minimal of designs.
We love to see people experimenting with colour, so make sure to tag us in your social images if you take on the challenge of peach fuzz or get decadent with earthy rust.
