In our previous blog we gave you a quick guide on how to design the lighting in your home. Following on from that post, we wanted to share some of the great places we go to, when we’re sourcing lighting options for our clients.
Our go to place for affordable contemporary modern lighting. They are UK based and offer an incredible selection of lighting with great design and luxury materials.

A great one stop shop for beautiful decorative lighting. Again, a great place for affordable lighting options, they are masters at joining traditional shapes with more contemporary and interesting fabrics and finishes. We think their tagline sums them up perfectly:
"Lights that look as though they cost a fortune, but don’t." Pooky
The go to for interior designers, British brand Jim Lawrence is always reliable for a well-made selection of lighting. Elegant and versatile, their lights and accessories are traditional in design and perfectly placed to add timeless style to your home.
Zara Home is incredibly well priced for the quality of the materials they use and usually their best pieces sell out quick, so it’s always worth checking in regularly to see what new gems they have in stock. We are a big fan of their table lamps and if I had a pound for every time someone asked where a lamp was sourced from and was shocked to hear Zara home, I would have a swimming pool.

Another UK based industry favourite is Birdie Fortescue. They’ve launched some really standout collaborations with designers and although the selection of lighting designs isn’t vast, you’re likely to find some great pieces that are unique and eye-catching. I also think their lampshades are great to use to jazz up more traditional or cheaper lamp bases, to give a more bespoke feel at a lower price point.
We love pretty much everything from Ferm Living. We know they are not the cheapest on this list, but if you are looking for contemporary lights that will create a focal point, look like design icons, and add interest to your room them this is the place to look.
A great place for premium switches, sockets, hardware, and lighting. This is a great one stop for lighting that can match to your sockets and switches and comes in an array of great finishes.
And here are a few tips to consider before you press add to cart on any new lighting for your home:
Match fixtures to the room's aesthetic: Ensure that the style of your lighting fixtures aligns with the overall aesthetic of the room. For example, if your home has a contemporary design, sleek and minimalist fixtures with clean lines would work well.
Consider scale and proportion: Pay attention to the size and scale of lighting fixtures relative to the room and other elements within it. Also, it’s important to think about how large your lamps are in relations to the surface you are putting it on. A large lamp on a small side table will look out of balance and mean there is hardly any room to put a drink down!
Coordinate Finishes and Materials: Consistency in finishes, such as matching the metal finishes of light fixtures with door handles or cabinet hardware, creates a cohesive and polished look. This is not essential if you are going for a more eclectic look, but it is always a good rule of thumb.
But ultimately, pick what you love, and you will enjoy seeing it every day. Whether you prefer modern minimalism, timeless elegance, or eclectic charm, the key is to explore different options and find fixtures that reflect your personal style.
We love to hear about great places to source lighting, so if there are any that we’ve missed, let us know in the comments below!
