Salone del Mobile: The Heart of Milan Design Week
At the centre of Milan Design Week is Salone del Mobile, the most prestigious and renowned event in the interior design calendar. An international furniture fair held annually since 1961, it can be described as the Oscars and Fashion Week of the interior design world, rolled into one. Attracting the biggest names in design, architecture, and innovation, this iconic event sets the stage for emerging trends and unveils groundbreaking products that will influence homes, offices, and public spaces in the years to come. It’s where design icons are born, and where the industry’s most forward-thinking creations are introduced to a global audience.
What Were the Best Exhibitions and Installations?
Gucci | Bamboo Encounters – Gucci’s exhibition explored the legacy of bamboo in design, with works from global artists emphasising sustainability and ethical production.
The Row's Homewares Debut – The fashion house expanded into homewares, presenting luxurious bed linens and blankets, epitomising minimalist elegance. As much as we love the brand, this one left us a bit cold!
Serena Confalonieri’s Jambo collection – Serena Confalonieri collaborated with Kenyan artisans to create vibrant vases from reclaimed flip-flops, addressing marine pollution and promoting sustainable art. A unique and socially conscious collection.
A-POC Able Issey Miyake’s Lighting Collaboration – In partnership with Atelier Oï, A-POC Able Issey Miyake presented sculptural lighting designs that transformed fabric into stunning, functional art. Truly a thing of beauty.
What Can We Expect to See in Stores and Homes in 2026?
Milan Design Week also offered a glimpse into the future of interiors, with trends set to shape homes and showrooms throughout 2026:
Revival of Central Ceiling Lighting – Exhibitions showcased dramatic ceiling fixtures, signalling a return to this design focal point.
Rich, Grounding Tones – Deep hues, particularly “barolo” (a rich wine red), stood out across textiles and furniture, suggesting a shift towards warmer, cocooning colour palettes.
Whimsical Décor – Playful, imaginative pieces are on the rise, with brands like Seletti bringing joy and irreverence into interiors.
Loud Luxury – Subtlety is taking a back seat; high-end names such as Louis Vuitton and Loewe embraced bold, opulent statement pieces.
Voluminous Seating – Comfort is king, with generously proportioned sofas and chairs bringing softness and sculptural elegance into rooms.
Handcrafted Expressions – A renewed appreciation for artisanal craftsmanship and tactile textures is creating a move toward more soulful interiors.
Natural, Retro Materials – Pine, cork, bamboo and other nostalgic, eco-conscious materials are making a comeback for their sustainable and warm aesthetic.
Artistic Rugs – Rugs are stepping into the spotlight, serving not just as accents but as artistic focal points in their own right.
With so many exciting launches and innovations emerging from Milan Design Week 2025, which of these trends would you be tempted to explore in your own space? Whether it’s whimsical décor, grounding tones, or a renewed focus on craft, the future of interior design is rich with possibility.
